What Fruit Goes Best with Gin?

What Fruit Goes Best with Gin?

Gin is a versatile spirit that can be enjoyed in a variety of ways, from a classic gin and tonic or the base of a great cocktail. Gin distillers all have their favourite recommended  fruit pairing.

Here at Filey Distillery we recommend orange as the ideal fruit to pair with our Signature Gin and with our Pink Gin we are big believers in anything goes!

Here are some suggestions for fruits that pair well with gin and how to use them in your favourite gin drinks.

Using Citrus Fruits in Gin

Citrus fruits like lemon, lime, and orange are a natural match for London Dry gin. The acidity and brightness of these fruits complement the botanical flavours in gin, making for a refreshing and balanced drink. Try a classic gin and tonic with a squeeze of lime, or a gin sour with lemon and sugar.

What Berries should you add to Gin?

If making a cocktail such as a bramble the obvious addition of blackberries is essential but there are no hard rules preventing the odd blueberry getting involved too.  Pink gins on the other hand, due to their newness are not governed by such tradition leaving you to go wild with your fruity imagination.

Berries like strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry add a touch of sweetness and a pop of colour to gin drinks. These fruits can be muddled or pureed and added to a gin cocktail for a fruity twist. Try a strawberry gin fizz or a raspberry gin martini.

Does Cucumber go with Gin?

If you think it does then the answer is yes! Certain gins set out to pair very well with this fruit (yes cucumber is a fruit!) There are also recipies for making your own cucumber gin which might be a fun thing to try this summer.

Can you add Pineapple to Gin?

Well its not against the law, we wouldn’t let you visit Filey Distillery twice if you sneaked a pineapple in. Seriously though it’s a great option for tiki-inspired gin cocktails, a simple gin and pineapple juice is not an unpleasant proposition and it has been seen cheekily replacing lemon in a gin fizz.

What Fruits Don't Go Well with Gin?

It largely depends on personal taste and preferences. However, some people may find that certain fruits such as grapefruit or kiwi do not pair well with gin due to their strong flavours. Ultimately, the best way to determine which fruits complement gin is to experiment and try different combinations until you find the ones you enjoy the most.

How Best to Serve our Filey Signature Gin?

Here at Filey Distillery we recommend you serve our award winning Filey Signature Gin with  a slice of orange to bring out the best in the carefully selected botanicals.
